What is Kyokushin Karate?
Kyokushin Karate is a style of karate known for its emphasis on full-contact sparring and tamashiwari (breaking), while still preserving the traditional aspects of karate. It was created and perfected by the legendary Mas Oyama in the 1950s. The word "karate" translates to "empty hand" in its literal interpretation, and this form of karate developed in Japan, specifically in Okinawa, around the 17th century.

Do I need prior martial arts experience to enroll?
No prior martial arts experience is necessary to enroll in Kyokushin Karate. A positive attitude and determination are all that's required, and instructors will ensure that you progress at a suitable pace.
What results can I expect?
You can expect intensive training, both physically and mentally, in a spirit of health and respect. Kyokushin Karate aims to improve your physical fitness, self-defense skills, and mental discipline.
What is the frequency of training sessions?
You can train up to three times a week. Adult classes typically last an hour and a half, while classes for youth last one hour. This does not include seminars, tournaments, or advanced training sessions.
From what age can one start?
At Shinka, the recommended minimum age to start is six years old. There is no maximum age limit for getting in shape, meaning adults of all ages are welcome.
Am I allowed to have a trial class?
Yes, you have the opportunity to participate in a free trial class to experience Kyokushin Karate before committing. It's an excellent opportunity to see if it suits you.
Do you have any specials?
Yes, family members receive an extra 10% discount on their enrolment.
Is Shinka Dojo certified, and will my belt be recognized?
Yes, the Shinka karate school is part of the World Karate Organization (WKO) under the leadership of Kenji Midori. All belts and certificates awarded to black belts and above are issued from Japan, making them internationally recognized.
Are the instructors certified?
Yes, all instructors have received their certification from Japan, ensuring their competence and qualification to teach Kyokushin Karate.
Are there any special events?
Shinka school participates in an average of two tournaments per year. Furthermore, an annual calendar is published, including special classes and seminars such as tamashiwari (breaking) and more advanced training sessions for members.
